Collagen growth & to remodel scarring
What is microdermabrasion and what conditions can be treated with microdermabrasion?
Microdermabrasion is a procedure where the skin is brushed with tiny diamonds, while a vacuum is also applied to the skin. This leads to exfoliation and removal of dead skin cells, cleaning of oil and a deep clean of clogged pores.
Microdermabrasion can revitalise and rejuvenate dull, lifeless skin giving you a healthy appearance. Microdermabrasion unblocks clogged pores which aids in the treatment of acne, whiteheads and blackheads. Treatment with microdermabrasion is not limited to the face, and can be very useful on the neck, back, upper chest and upper arms.
Microdermabrasion can also be combined with a micro-skin needling and serum infusion and Photo-LED Therapy as part of a full Dermafrac treatment. A series of microdermabrasion treatments, in conjunction with Dermafrac, chemical peels or laser therapy and occurring over a period of weeks or months, may be recommended by your dermal therapist.
What does treatment with microdermabrasion feel like? Is there any downtime?
Everyone has different experiences, however treatment with microdermabrasion is rapid, discomfort is minimal, and the treatment is generally very well tolerated. The highly trained staff at Evolve Advanced Cosmetic Medicine can adjust the treatment if you find that you are becoming too uncomfortable. You can return to your normal activities immediately after treatment with microdermabrasion, however you may notice that your skin feels tight and dry, and looks slightly pink. These effects show that the treatment is working, and should only last for a day or two. Your dermal therapist will assist you in tailoring a personalised post-treatment plan including moisturising cream, to help you get back to your best as quickly as possible. The team at Evolve Advanced Cosmetic Medicine can even apply a mineral makeup to your face so you can immediately return to your normal activities.
How long until I see results after treatment with microdermabrasion?
Everyone’s body reacts differently, but the effect of microdermabrasion treatment will be seen after the initial period of mild redness resolves, generally a day or two. However, your skin may feel fresher immediately! Similarly, the treatment effect will last different lengths of time on different skin types.
Treatments may be required every week to every six weeks, depending on your skin type, your treatment goals and the other components of your personally tailored treatment plan.
How long does treatment with microdermabrasion take?
Treatment time depends on the size of the region treated. As a general guide, a microdermabrasion treatment of the face would be expected to take twenty to thirty minutes. Microdermabrasion can also be combined with a micro-skin needling and serum infusion and photo-led as part of a full Dermafrac treatment. A Dermafrac treatment would be expected to take around forty-five minutes. It is truly a lunchtime procedure!
I have sensitive skin. Is treatment with microdermabrasion for me?
Some sensitive skin types may not tolerate microdermabrasion well, and a different, gentler treatment may be indicated for you. Please discuss your treatment goals and any skin sensitivities with our highly trained staff during your initial consultation, and we can tailor a treatment plan for you.
