Coolsculpting Vs Liposuction

Many of us are familiar with those stubborn pockets of fat which we just can’t seem to get rid of, no matter how hard we exercise or how much we diet: “love-handles”, “double-chins”, “bingo or tuck-shop arms” and even bellies. In the past many people resorted to liposuction to treat these problem areas, but liposuction is an invasive surgical procedure with extensive downtime keeping you from doing the things that you love. The Zeltiq Coolsculpting procedure is a revolutionary new non-invasive, non-surgical alternative to liposuction which can help treat these problem areas in an afternoon, and with minimal pain and downtime.

What is Coolsculpting?

The non-invasive Coolsculpting fat reduction technique utilises a process as cryolipolysis: the fat cells in your body are known to freeze at a different temperature to other, healthy cells. Coolsculpting take advantage of this fact by applying a device that resembles a cold vacuum to your love-handles, double-chin or other problem areas, and freezing the fat cells, while leaving the normal tissue unharmed. The body’s natural processes then break down and eliminate the fat cells over the next few weeks and months. No hospital stay, no anaesthetic, no painful surgery or incisions, and you can go back to work immediately after your treatment. The most commonly treated areas include the stomach, hips, love-handles, thighs and double-chins, although almost any problem area can be targeted with a Coolsculpting treatment.

There are a number of reasons why someone may chose either Coolsculpting or surgical liposuction to deal with these problem areas. Of course, it is important to remember that neither Coolsculpting or liposuction are a replacement for exercise and diet, and both must be considered to be just one component of an individually tailored exercise and nutrition management plan. Surgical liposuction is generally able to treat larger areas of fat, results are seen immediately, and may be more cost effective when many or larger areas are treated. However liposuction is considered a major surgical procedure and requires a general anaesthetic. Most patients will experience at least a few days of down-time, and may unable to return to work for two to three weeks. They will also be restricted in their ability to exercise for the first three to six weeks. Coolsculpting is a safer non-surgical weight loss alternative for more targeted areas of fat. It does does not require a general anaesthetic and you will be unrestricted in your daily activities, including being able to return to work immediately. The fat will be removed from your body painlessly, and you should start to notice the effects over the next four to six weeks. The fat loss happens gradually, with a similar toning effect to the one you would see from exercising. A common question that we are asked, am I a candidate for fat freezing? If you could grab a pinch of fat, and diet and exercise hasn’t helped, than contact our Coolsculpting experts for an assessment.
