If you’re considering having any kind of cosmetic treatment – from fat freezing to cosmetic injectables – it’s imperative that you gather all of the facts first. Make the most of your initial consultation with a skincare professional to help you understand exactly what the procedure involves and the kind of results you can expect.
Below, we’ve started you off with 5 questions to ask in your cosmetic skincare consultation. If you have any other questions that aren’t listed here, feel free to get in touch with the experts at Evolve skin clinic.
1. What is the recovery period like? Will there be any downtime?
It’s important to find out how quickly you’ll be able to return to work and your other day-to-day activities following the treatment. Most non-surgical procedures have little to no downtime, and often patients can have the treatment in their lunch break and go straight back to work.
Other times, you may experience redness or swelling, so it’s important to factor this in when booking your appointments. Don’t forget to ask the clinician about any side effects associated with the treatment.
2. What brand of product do you use?
There is a range of brands on the market, and it’s important that your skincare professional uses approved, prescription-only medication during your treatment. If you’re getting fillers or anti-wrinkle injections, ask which brand will be used and why the clinic prefers that brand.
Once you have this information, you’ll be able to carry out your own research if you like – or you can ask your therapist if you have any specific questions about the product.
3. Realistically, what kind of results can I expect from this treatment?
A reputable skin care clinic will manage your expectations and provide an honest overview of the kind of results you can expect from the treatment – to avoid client disappointment further down the line.
A qualified nurse, doctor or dermal therapist will be able to estimate how many treatments you’ll need to achieve the look you want and can let you know if your results will be subtle or more dramatic. This depends on factors such as your skin type and the current severity of your skin or beauty concern.
4. Will I experience any kind of pain or discomfort during the procedure?
The great thing about choosing non-surgical procedures is that there is typically little, or no pain involved for the patient. However, this can vary depending on the treatment as well as your pain threshold, and what one person describes as uncomfortable another person doesn’t feel at all.
Ask your therapist how patients usually respond – and let them know if you feel nervous at all. They’ll be able to describe what the sensation might feel like, whether this is warming, cooling, tingling, pulling, prickly or even painful. That way, you know exactly what to expect when walking into the treatment room.
5. How many treatments will I need?
Every patient is different. In mild cases and for certain treatments (Laser Genesis, for example), only one session may be needed. However, this is extremely rare, and most patients require multiple sessions at a pre-defined schedule.
Your therapist should ask questions about your skin type and previous procedures and will examine your skin to determine how many treatments they think you’ll need. They can give you a rough idea of the schedule, so you’ll know how many months you may need to commit to, for the aesthetic you’re hoping for.
